v roce 1924 bylo založil Nicolas Menchikoff Centrum pro výzkum Sahary (CRS - Centre de Recherche Sahariennes) a v roce 1942 i Muzeum Beni Abbes. V témže roce je CRS přejmenováno na Centrum pro výzkum suchých oblastí (CRZA - Centre de Recherche des Zones Arides). Zřejmě v roce 1964 vzniká zoo. Po znárodnění v roce 1974 byla všechna tři zařízení (muzeum, zoo a CRZA) spojena a přejmenována na Národní centrum pro výzkum suchých oblastí (CNRZA - Centre National de Recherche sur les Zones Arides). Následně několikrát změnilo zřizovatele. Nyní je součástí Výzkumného útvaru suchých oblastí (URZA - Unité de Recherche des Zones Arides).
Zoo je ve špatném stavu - šakali, fenci, gazely, zajíci, dravci, želvy a další plazi...

Nicolas Menchikoff founded the Centre for Research of Sahara (CRS - Centre de Recherche Sahariennes) in 1924 and the Museum of Beni Abbes in 1942. In the same year, the CRS was renamed the Centre for Research of Drylands (CRZA - Centre de Recherche des Zones Arides). The zoo was founded apparently in 1964. After nationalization in 1974, all three facilities (museum, zoo and CRZA) were connected and renamed the National Center for Research of Drylands (CNRZA - Centre National de Recherche sur les Zones Arides). Then several times the establisher was changed. Now it is part of the Research Unit of Dryland (Urza - Unité de Recherche des Zones Arides).
Zoo is in poor condition - jackals, fennecs, gazelles, hares, raptors, tortoises and other reptiles...
