původní výrobna vápna a cementu (z korálů) byla zavřena v roce
1960. (V roce 1969 byla tato činnost dokonce zakázána). V roce
1977 byl položen základní kámen nové komerční želví farmy (Ferme
Corail). Ta čelila čím dál větší kritice zahraničí. Farmové
želvy byly nahrazeny rybami (tilapie mosambická) a později byla
farma rozhodnutím z roku 1994 vykoupena Regionální radou
Réunionu a přeměněna na výzkumné a vzdělávací centrum mořských
želv. Celý areál byl kompletně zrekonstruován a znovu otevřen
16. srpna 2006. Je to replika přírodního prostředí mořských
želv. V zahradě je i několik suchozemských želv.
V posledních třech desetiletích patří toto zařízení k
nejnavštěvovanějším turistickým cílům Réunionu.
The original production of lime and cement (from coral) was
closed in 1960. (In 1969, this activity was even prohibited). In
1977 was the foundation stone of new commercial turtle farm (Ferme
Corail). It has faced increasing to criticism from abroad.
Farmed turtles were replaced by fishes (Mozambique tilapia), and
later was the farm by the resolution from 1994 bought out by the
Regional Council of Reunion and transformed into a research and
educational center of marine turtles. The whole area has been
completely renovated and re-opened on 16th August 2006. It is
replica of the natural habitats of marine turtles. In the
garden, there are also several land turtles.
In the past three decades, this device is the most visited
tourist destinations Réunion.
