Plantation House je sídlo guvernéra ostrova. Na jeho pozemku je
výběh želv obrovských a naučná stezka vedoucí přes park. První
želvy tu byly během 19. století. Nejstarší je zde od roku 1882 -
samec Jonathan - tvrdí se, že je to nejstarší žijící
obratlovec světa (téměř 180 let, údajně narozen 1832). Tato
želva je po Napoleonovi určitě nejpopulárnějším obyvatelem Svaté
Heleny všech dob. V letech 1960, 1969, 1972 a 1991 byly dovezeny
další želvy. Ačkoli se želvy opakovaně páří a snáší vejce, nikdy
nebyla žádná odchována (a zřejmě ani vylíhnuta). V plánu je
přivést další kusy želv a vytvořit chovnou skupinu.
Na internetu je uváděno, že jde o Seychelské obrovské želvy (Dipsochelys
hololissa), to je však druh považovaný za vyhubený v roce
1840 a znovuobjevený v r. 1995. Taktéž se objevují nesmyslné
informace o neexistující želvě Testudinipae cytodira.
Téměř jistě jde o želvy obrovské (z Aldabry - Dipsochelys
gigantea nebo Geochelone gigantea). Historicky zde byly také ovce a několik druhů okrasných
ptáků (např. holubi). Podle některých zpráv je v zahradě několik
klecí z ptáky i nyní.
Plantation House is the home of island's governor. In the ground
there is the paddock of Giant tortoises and Nature trail through
the park. First tortoises were here during 19. century. The
oldest is here since 1882 - male Jonathan - they argue that it
is the oldest living vertebrate in the world (nearly 180 years
old, allegedly born 1832). This tortoise is after Napoleon
certainly the most popular St. Helena resident of all time. In
1960, 1969, 1972 and 1991 other tortoises was imported. Although
the tortoises are repeatedly mating and lay eggs, they was never
bred (and maybe not even hatched). The plan is to bring another
specimens of the tortoises and to make a breeding group.
In the Internet there is claimed that these are a Seychelles
giant tortoises (Dipsochelys hololissa), however it is
species considered to be extinct in 1840 and rediscovered in
1995. There are also appearing nonsensical information about the
nonexistent tortoise Testudinipae cytodira. Almost
certainly they are a Aldabra giant tortoises (Dipsochelys
gigantea or Geochelone gigantea).
Historically, there were also sheep and several species of
ornamental birds (e.g. doves). According to several information,
in the grounds, there are several cages with birds also now.
v zahradě o ploše cca 113 ha (280 akrů) je množství vzácných
rostlin a to jak z tropického tak z mírného pásma. Pár metrů odsud je
kostel Sv. Pavla. Vlastně nic není daleko - hlavní město Jamestown je
asi 3 km odsud na sever, hrob Napoleona asi 4 km na východ, Longwood
House, kde žil Napoleon je o další 2 km dále stejným směrem.

meters from here, there is St. Paul's Church. Actually, nothing is far -
the capital Jamestown is about 3 km away to the north, the tomb of
Napoleon is about 4 km to the east, Longwood House, where Napoleon lived
is about another 2 km further in the same direction.
