velká turistická a komerční motýlí farma a zahrada -
původně organizace CRES (Costa Rica Entomolgical Supply),
založená 1984. V roce 1990 byla farma otevřena
veřejnosti jako La Finca de Meriposas nebo anglicky The
Butterfly Farm. Byla to údajně první expozice živých
motýlů v celé Latinské Americe a Karibiku. Kromě chovu a
expozice motýlů, prodeje kukel, preparovaných motýlů a
jiného hmyzu se CRES věnuje i rozvoji Kostarického
motýlího farmaření (především v začátcích - v 90.
letech, kdy první farmy teprve začínaly vznikat) - např.
výukou farmářů, předáváním vlastních zkušeností,
exportem kukel malochovatelů atd. (exportuje kukly asi
80 dalších malochovatelů). V roce 2013 byla expoziční
část farmy zrušena. CRES existuje stále, především jako
komerční firma - je zřejmě největším světovým exportérem
kukel neotropických motýlů a jedním z největších
exportérů motýlů obecně.

originally CRES organization (Costa Rica Entomolgical
Supply), founded in 1984. In 1990, the farm was opened
to the public as La Finca de Meriposas or The Butterfly
Farm in English. It was reportedly the first exhibition
of live butterflies in the whole Latin America and
Caribbean. In addition to breeding and exhibition of
butterflies, sales of pupae, dried butterflies and other
insects the CRES are devoted to the development of Costa
Rican butterfly farming (especially in the beginning -
in the 1990s, when the first farm just beginning to be
created) - eg. by teaching farmers, handing down own
experiences, export pupae of small farmers etc. (it
exports pupae about 80 other small farmers). In 2013,
the exposition part of the farm was abolished. CRES
still exists, mainly as a commercial company - it is
probably the world's largest exporter of neotropical
butterfly pupae and one of the largest exporters of
butterflies in general. |
