Arboretum and zoo |

Created in 1965, the arboretum offers pleasant relaxation. While walking
down a well-kept walkway, you can delight yourself in the 335 deciduous
and 165 coniferous trees and shrubs and can take a rest at one of the
finely shaped lay-bys. In the heat of summer it is especially refreshing
to relax near one of the ponds in the garden, or on an islet, which you
can approach along a wooden bridge.
A zoo that presents native domesticated animals, which you
can also touch and stroke, is a popular site that adds extra flavour to
the arboretum. Native Hungarian fallow poultry types, bald-necked and
speckled hens, guinea fowls, geese with frilled feathers, Hungarian
semi-wild ducks, pheasants and pigeons populate the zoo.
There is a separate enclosure for wild boars, fallow deer,
roes, alpacas and Mangalica pigs; different types of sheep, such as "Racka",
"Cikta" and "Cigaja"; and even a donkey.
Situated in the gardens, the Memorial Park of the Famous
Horses is a unique establishment in Europe, is the burial ground for the
famous horses of past times. The 18 memorial mounds of the cemetery are
marked with wooden head boards and marble tablets decorated in
Transylvanian style. A monument reminds you that it is the resting place
of 54 horses.
The gardens show a different face as the seasons go by. In
the spring, it greets you with plants and animals awakening after a long
winter, with the song of birds perched on branches dotted with a myriad
of buds. In the summer, vegetation takes on sharp shades of green, you
can smell the scent of freshly cut grass and watch the pack of grazing
sheep. In the autumn, nature dazzles you with countless colours and the
sense of decay, while the winter enchants you with plants wearing a
frock of frost and 19.4 hectares of snow covered land.
