mnoho egyptských faraónů vlastnilo zvěřinec, bohužel ne o všech jsou k dispozici konkrétnější zprávy (Amenhotep II., Amenhotep III. a Ramses III. měli údajně rozsáhlé sbírky zvířat)

many Egyptian pharaohs owned a menagerie, unfortunately concrete reports about all are not at disposal (Amenhotep II, Amenhotep III and Ramses III had reportedly an extensive animal collections)

nejstarší známý zvěřinec, objevený při archeologických vykopávkách až v roce 2009. Pochází cca z roku 3500 př. n.l.!!! Byly zde nalezeny pozůstatky 112 zvířat - 3 hroši (s mládětem), 2 sloni, 11 paviánů anubi, 6 divokých koček, 10 psů, kráva s teletem, pratur, buvolci... Zvířata byla rozhodně chována v zajetí stejně jako v zoo, jelikož mají některá zlomeniny zhojené evidentně v chráněném prostředí. Za potravu sloužily mj. pěstované rostliny, což dokazuje, že byla zvířata krmena. Podle různých přítomných artefaktů byla zvířata pohřbívána lidmi.

The oldest known menagerie, discovered during the archaeological excavations till in 2009. It originated cca from 3500 BC!!! There were found a remains of 112 animals - 3 hippos (with baby),2 elephants, 11 anubis baboons, 6 wild cats, 10 dogs, cow with calf, aurochs, hartebeests... The animals were surely bred in captivity like in the zoo, because some of them have a fractures healed obviously in a protected environment. Among others the cultivated plants served as a food, what shows that the animals were fed. According to various present artifacts the animals were buried by people.

zvěřinec zvaný Zahrada Amonova byl zřízen královnou Hatšepsut u chrámu Džeser-Džeseru v Deir el Bahrí v Thébách. Byla tam místní zvířata, zvířata z povodí horního Nilu, severovýchodní Afriky, ale i exotické druhy. Levharti, gepardi, kočkodani, babuini, indičtí sloni, nosorožci, žirafy, skot, exotičtí ptáci... Některá zvířata byla ve výbězích v zahradě, jiná přímo v paláci ve speciálních ubikacích.

the menagerie called Garden of Amun-Ra was created by queen Hatsheput at the Djeser-Djeseru temple in Deir el Bahri in Thebes. There were local animals, animals from the bank of Upper Nile, northeastern Africa, but also exotic species. Leopards, cheetahs, guernon monkeys, yellow baboons, Indian elephants, rhinos, giraffes, cattle, exotic birds... Soma animals were in enclosure in the garden, the others just inside of the palace in a special quarters.

vyhlášená nádherná botanická zahrada faraóna Thutmose III. (vládl 1479 - 1425 př. n.l.) v Chrámu miliónu let (Ach-menu) v Karnaku. Byla zde nejen obrovská sbírka vzácných rostlin, ale i vzácných zvířat (jeleni, ptáci, domácí zvířata a další zvířata z Egypta i dovezené ze Sýrie a Mezopotámie). Flóra i fauna která byla ve sbírce, byla také vyryta do stěn.

renowned beautiful botanical garden of pharaoh Thutmose III (reigned 1479 - 1425 BC) in Festival Hall Temple (Akh-menu) in Karnak. There was not only large collection of rare plants, but also rare animals (deer, birds, domestic animals and other animals from Egypt and also improted from Syria and Mesopotamia). The flora and also fauna, which was in the collection, was also engraved to the walls.

manžel proslulé Nefertiti - reformátorský faraón Achnaton (původně Amenhotep IV., vládl přibližně 1352 - 1336 př. n.l.) měl ve svém novém městě Achetatonu (později Amarna) okolo paláce zvěřinec se lvy v klenutých stavbách, antilopami, kzorožci a skotem ve výbězích z tyčí a větví, rybník s rybami a vodními ptáky a také voliéru.

husband of the famous Nefertiti - reformist pharaoh Akhenaten (originally Amenhotep IV, reigned approximately 1352 - 1336 BC) had a menagerie in his new city Akhetaten (later Amarna) around the palace. There were lions in the domed buildings, antelope, ibexes and cattle in pens made of sticks and branches, pond with fish and waterfowl and also aviary.

faraón Ramses II. (také Ramesse II., vládl 1279 - 1213 př. n.l.) byl proslulý svou tlupou lvů, které používal ve válkách. Pravděpodobně měl i rozsáhlý zvěřinec - v jeho hlavním městě Pi Ramesse bylo nalezeno mnoho kosterních pozůstatků velkých zvířat (kromě lvů například i sloni a žirafy). Ramses II. choval pravděpodobně i africký poddruh pratura (Bos primigenius mauretanicus).

pharaoh Ramses II (also Ramesses II, reigned 1279 - 1213 BC) was famous for his troop of lions, which were used in wars. He had probably also extensive menagerie - many skeletons of large animals (in addition to the lions for example also elephants and giraffes) were found in his capital Pi-Ramesses. Remses II bred probably also African subspecies of aurochs (Bos primigenius mauretanicus).

 
POZNÁMKA: zvěřinec Ptolemaiů v Alexandrii (3. stol. př. n.l. - 1 stol. n.l.) již patří do Starověkého Řecka a ani novější zvěřince v Egyptě nepatří ke Starověkému Egyptu
NOTE: menagerie of Ptolemaic in Alexandria (3rd cent BC - 1st cent. AD) already belong to Ancient Greece and nor newer menageries in Egypt don't belong to Ancient Egypt.
